1960s–1980s: Computer-Based Training (CBT). Early corporate training moved onto mainframes and, later, floppy disks — rigid and expensive to update, but proof that digital delivery could scale beyond the classroom.

Translate the performance gap into specific, measurable objectives — what the learner should be able to do differently, not just know. Step 3: Audience Analysis

Ask whether the content already exists — internally or via a licensed library — before building original content. Step 5: Storyboarding

The organizations pulling ahead right now aren’t the ones with the biggest course libraries. So here’s the answer we promised at the start: Priya’s dashboard showed exactly what it should have, given what happened upstream of it. Nobody had run the compliance course through anything like the Performance Diagnosis Framework in Part 4 — so a 38% completion rate might have been telling her the course was badly designed, or that the audience was disengaged, or that the deadline communication failed, or that it was never really a training gap at all.
